Hi! I'm Mr Joomla. When I started a website few years back, it was a blogspot. Yea, that blogger site. It was so easy to use! After 2 weeks, I gave up on blogspot. You see, to make it easy for newbies and IT-babies to use, they have to make the interface as simplified as possible, thus cutting down a lot of features and functions. Think MS Paint, simple program to use right? But soooo limited. Versus Photoshop... everybody knooows Photoshop is THE chosen standard for graphic editor software. But if you'd never used it before, then you'll know how steep the learning curve is. Back to blogspot. I gave up after 2 weeks and moved on to WordPress, the chosen standard for blogging then and now. Happily, there were a lot of extensible features and functions. I've used it for awhile. Then I got ambitious; I wanted to opt for a membership site. And I wanted that to be built-in within the CMS (Content Management System). After much surfing, the battle of the CMS'es came down to 2 heavyweights. Joomla vs Drupal. Each has its pro's and con's. After much deliberation on the various debates and arguments for either heavyweight, I chose to go with Joomla. The main reason being there were loads of extensions available for Joomla and the community surrounds the CMS seemed vibrant. OK, decision made. How to learn Joomla? Oops! Can't find any book on Joomla. The closest I could get my hands on was a book on Mambo. You see, Joomla is actually a fork from Mambo.Originally, the CMS was Mambo. Then, there were some major disagreements between the originator and the volunteer developers on the direction of the Mambo CMS. It came to a point where the volunteer developers decided to leave Mambo and created the Joomla CMS. The first version of Joomla was virtually identical to Mambo. Since version 1.5, the model has shifted massively from the old. From the Mambo book, I'd learnt the basics of Joomla (weird eh?). From then on, I have moved from strength to strength; beginning from a newbie, to a user, to a designer and now a developer. I have modified templates upon templates to beyond recognition. I have modified and customized codes to my heart's content just to create the features clients' wanted. Plans are afoot to start developing Joomla extensions when the time and resources are right. So what's in store for you since you'd stepped into my cosy site? Click here to explore further... |
